Concrete Stress & Tensile Strength Of Steel
In this construction video tutorial, you will get the details about allowable stresses in concrete, tensile strength of steel, steel yield strength, steel properties and steel reinforcement with adherence to table 21 IS 456 2000.
Different types of concrete grades are available which range from M15, M20, M25, M30, M40, M45, M50. The concrete is formed on the basis of these grades.
There are different types of ratios for all types of concrete grades. The ratio comes as Cement : Fine Aggregates : Course Aggregates.
- For M10 grade of concrete, the ratio is 1:3:6
- For M15 grade of concrete, the ratio is 1:2:4
- For M20 grade of concrete, the ratio is 1:1½:3
- For M15 grade of concrete, the ratio is 1:1:2
The concrete paste is formed by adding water with cement, sand and aggregates.
The allowable stress in compression is divided in two parts like Bending and Direct.
The allowable stresses for bending toward different grades of concrete are as follow :-
- M15 grade of concrete = 5.0
- M20 grade of concrete = 7.0
- M25 grade of concrete = 8.5
- M30 grade of concrete = 10.0
- M40 grade of concrete = 13.0
- M45 grade of concrete = 14.5
- M50 grade of concrete = 16.0

- M20 grade of concrete = 5.0
- M25 grade of concrete = 6.0
- M30 grade of concrete = 8.0
- M40 grade of concrete = 10.0
- M45 grade of concrete = 11.0
- M50 grade of concrete = 12.0

For plain bars in tension (N/mm2)
- M15 grade of concrete = 0.6
- M20 grade of concrete = 0.8
- M25 grade of concrete = 0.9
- M30 grade of concrete = 1.0
- M40 grade of concrete = 1.2
- M45 grade of concrete = 1.3
- M50 grade of concrete = 1.4
For HYSD bars (N/mm2)
- M15 grade of concrete = 0.96
- M20 grade of concrete = 1.28
- M25 grade of concrete = 1.44
- M30 grade of concrete = 1.6
- M40 grade of concrete = 1.92
- M45 grade of concrete = 2.08
- M50 grade of concrete = 2.24
