ACUDO - A Free Excel Application to Examine the Impact of Water Accumulation Phenomenon in a Roof
The water accumulation on small low slope roofs (? 5%) leads to the accidents amongst the most recurrent. It is normally found on low-slope roofs due to rain or flooding evacuations. By the effect of the water load, the beams supporting the cover are deformed and a pocket takes place. The water charge build ups and consequently produces more distortion, which at the same time raises the storage of water, etc.
For roofs "flexible", a collapse can develop when the water outflow is slower as compared to accumulation.
To facilitate the practitioner to recognize this incident better control their consequences and to make the required arrangements, ACUDO application, an excel application, should be applied. This application helps in considering the impact of water accumulation phenomenon in a building roof connected by determining, with an iterative process, the final state of the system studied.
This application is the advancement of the one that was applied as part of a study posted in the journal Steel Construction No. 1- 2010 (CTICM): "Effect of water accumulation in the horizontal valleys of pitched roofs symmetrical gently sloping "(TM. Nguyen, Y. Galéa Mr. Lukic).
The studied system refers to a load that is caused by a combination of shares (normally at Ultimate Limit State). The consequent load is expressed by a uniform surface charge and distributed right through the roof slope (dead loads, snow, ...), a surface load circulated over a rectangular area (snow accumulation, maintenance, ...) and, obviously, an initial charge of water, specified by the maximum height over the undeformed assumed roof (level of the overflow or the roof edge, the stationary level in view of the discharge flow rate of the water pipes ).
